Age of Aincrad

Post by Esvald Forceswoop on Tue Jun 10, 2014 9:07 am

So there is that other project will interfere our project. I heatd they are giving out alpha keys now.
Meanwhile we are still at Floor 1. So they are ahead of us.
And if they will complete it everyone will play their game as the unoffical SAO .MMORPG.
So now what? I am a bit scared and frustrated.

They may be more advanced than us, they started way before us. But they are not at Floor 10, they began with Floor 10.
There's no worries to have, both games will be really different (gameplay, art style, quality). I personally don't see it like a competition.

Well I don"t know much about the AoA but I don't even plan to change this. I help this group and I would feel treason if I shared my ideas with them.
And I'm not even sure they need/want my ideas, so...

I think that we would have to begin to make a little alpha (When we finished the floor 1). And I think that we should create a Twitter and a Facebook, So we will have more followers.

We are not looking for more followers right now. Most of the people registered on this forum are pure luck, we didn't do any publicity. The reason is that we are waiting to be more advanced in development and to have more things to show to our future community.

i agree it would be better to wait until you have something to show before putting out an alpha, I to have seen there work but as far as I can tell they have little to nothing, I am sure awakening studios will make a much better game Very Happy

The only reason im here is because i talked top Joey on what you guys where doing on the old one and he told me about this one so i hopped on over here. also i wouldent mind an alpha the issue i see with it this early would be lack of content and only a few people would test it . and as Owex said trying to get more followers at this point would be silly.

Once we have some more gameplay elements and features that would make our game worthy of a pre alpha version we will o public and consider releasing a playable version Smile

I think most people nowadays seem to think that alpha / beta tests are just a way to get into a game faster and play it earlyer. so if the game wont look interesting to them there, they will drop it and go some where else.
rather than that we should aim to share our ideas and the execution of the game with the community and take in their feedback. maybe some QA sessions too, and so on

i agree with THD as more game devs are using alpha as an excuse to sell more copies of their game and build up a fan base but some betas I have see are so incomplete its hard to imagine that's its a beta and vies versa for pre-alpha, personally I would use an alpha as a demo with features but some reserved for the launch of the game but no too little or people wont want to stay with the game, we need to find the "goldilocks" zone for features to release to the public

Alright. I'm a very active member in AoA. I just want to say that this project at way less dev time is just as far (if not farther than AoA. If anyone noticed. They switched yet again back to unity engine. The deemed their old unity code useless and restarted completely. Awakened Studios has tons of useful content whereas AoA has mostly just networking stuff. Gameplay is what matters and indeed this project has quite a bit. I've been heavily monitoring other SAO projects and this one by far has the most potential and content to date.

I once thought AoA was the most advanced and professional SAO project out there, but we're getting a few comments like yours, that's encouraging. Thank you for your support, it's appreciated! Smile

Ahh indeed. They probably are the most professional, but definitely not the most advanced. If you'd like I can share a video that one of their webdevs posted of a launcher update where he also plays the game.

I'd say for professionalism all you guys are missing to pass them is a more aesthetic website (ei, changing the format, making th 16bit icons like 64bit if possible) and then format of youtube titles (one says : [Update][SAO] 1/1/1 whereas the other says [SAO][Update].

Simple little formatting things would make you guys surpass them.

age of aincrad looks really advanced, so instead of feeling like glum we need to take it one step at a time.
the graphics on AOA look really good, but I haven't seen any combat so Smile

When I worked on AoA, before it was even called that, the teamwork and leadership were absolute shit.

We originally had plans for floor 10 because we figured it'd be the easiest and didn't want to copy the whole floor 1 idea and get slapped with a lawsuit, then our work would be in the gutter.

Their graphics really aren't all that great either. Everyone was salivating for that overly bloomed to hell gameplay video.

Are they ahead of this project? Without a doubt. Should they be considered a threat? That entirely depends on the opinions of Owex/Joey.

Tyler and I ended up creating models because our modelers were never online. Everything was all over the place. There's probably a reason they haven't exactly showcased very much. Progress over there was ridiculously slow.

Well if they were to add ALO,it would need to be a whole other game.In the game the only link was the swords and being able to transfer stats from one game to the next.So you could take weapons such as Excalibur and put in SAO.

If AoA is that much of a threat, don't view them as a competitor. View them more as a what not to do. It is ok for some games to have similar characteristics, but the vast majority of the game needs to be different. From what I read in the previous comments, they didn't start at floor 1 and work up, they started at floor 10, which should not be started from.
